Monster or Friend ?

There is this highly intelligent monster, protecting itself in our skulls. This devious creature, constructs imaginary scenarios, in a clever manner that it builds on the basis of our past events and future expectations. It goes back to a past that we don’t even remember, painting it as either the most delightful occurrences or the most hideous events. Do we know how much of it is true or not ? As humans, we are never sure !

You see, it’s such a smart being, that interrupts our believes and paints reality as it wishes. Were our childhoods glamorous or horrible ? Were our teenage years anxious or adventurous ? Are we responsible adults or are we all a bunch of confused walking robots ? This bastard, never really gives us answers, it only makes us think !

Thinking, according to René Descartes, was his sole evidence of existence. Yet, it’s this severely complicated process, that follows us like an annoying little companion, who wants to play with us, but we are always too tired to deal with it.

Our brains, our sophisticated warden, throws stories at us, like these complex puzzles that take forever to be solved and goes on with its day, like nothing happened.

And here we are, wondering, swimming in a pool of existential dread, while this guy just sits there with a grin, waiting for us to figure it out…
